Topic: GOD’S PRESENCE CONVICTS OF SIN

Text: Genesis 3: 6 – 12

Memory Verse: “And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden” Genesis 3: 8

As we continue in our meditation on the Power of God’s Presence, today we look at the issues of Sin. In our passage today, we see Adam and Eve hiding from God because according to them, “They were naked”. However, is this really the reason? We were told that they already made clothes from leaves, which means that they were really not naked…. Then, why hide? The reason is the simple fact that the presence of God convicts of sin. We see our sin more clearly in the presence of God’s holiness.

The story was told of a Past Military Head of State who was to meet with religious leaders. The religious leaders both Christian and Muslim came mostly in their flowing white attire; more or less competing with one another and went to welcome the Head of State at the airport.

Immediately the Head of State stepped down from the aircraft, the religious leaders began to shift backwards instead of going forward to welcome him. This was because the Head of State came out in pure white attire, which made all the white of the religious leaders to look like brown. The closer they came to the Head of State, the more clearly it showed that their white attires were washed out.

This is exactly what happens to us in the presence of God. No wonder Isaiah said, “Woe is me, for I am undone! Because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell I the midst of people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the king, the Lord of hosts” Isaiah 6:5. Then one of the Seraphs brought a live coal and touched his lips to cleanse him.

In the presence of the God, We see our sin more clearly and our unworthiness, but if like Isaiah we confess our sins, we will be cleansed.

Today, look at yourself in the light of God’s holiness and confess your unworthiness and you will be cleansed.

Prayer: Lord God, I came to you not in my righteousness but on that of Christ. Cleanse me and I shall be clean in Jesus name. Amen.
