Topic: THE OLD ARREST WARRANT
Text: Colossians 2:8-15
Memory Verse: “…. Think of it! All sins forgiven, the slate wiped clean, that old arrest warrant cancelled and nailed to Christ’s cross” – (Col. 2:13b-14 – THE MSG).
Prior to, while on and after the cross, your Redeemer kept forgiving sins! “Your sins are forgiven”, He told the paralyzed man, stricken and brought on a mat (Matt. 9:2). “Neither do I condemn you…” He said to the accused adulteress (John 8:11); while on the cross, after the scourging, the mocking, the spitting, Your Redeemer still forgave! (Luke 23:34). Why? The fullness of the Godhead (Father, Son and Holy Spirit), dwelt in His earthly body (Col. 2:9)
Something also happened on the cross, making possible your redemption. The memory verse above was metaphorical in explaining our guilt, sins and debaucheries. We are like people condemned to death for which the law of Moses could not have saved us (Rom. 8:3). Now with our arrest warrant issued, no one, not the religious leaders, nor powers could have saved us.
Another metaphor used in the NKJV version, indicated this as “handwriting of requirements”, or a debt certificate written against our names – a guilty charge by law, because we could not, neither could anyone from Confucius to Buddha or any human could pay for us.
The cross thus made not only the “handwriting of ordinances” wiped clean and deleted, but that Christ, The Redeemer took them out of the way (forever), by each of those nails driven into His sacred hands and feet!
The cross revealed that Jesus, is Truly the Messiah, even in the testimony of the Roman soldiers who nailed Him to the cross (Matt. 27:54). The cross indicated the eternal victory of Jesus over the devil and his agents: principalities and powers (Col. 2:10&15). He not only defeated them spiritually and physically, He “marched them naked through the street” (MSG).
Dear friends, you are complete in Him, in whom all the Godhead dwells because you also abide in Him, never to be afraid of any terror. That arrest warrant has been voided; He has freed you from the “penalty” of your sins (Rom 3:19-23– NLT) by simply confessing with your mouth and believing by faith in your heart (Rom. 3:25), thus indicating God’s mercy and grace in keeping the promise He made (Isa. 43:25).
Read up also Rom 5:15, Acts 3:19; Isa. 44:21-22; Jer. 31:34; Hosea 14:1-4, Joel 2:13, and Zech. 3:1-5, for the sure mercies and grace of God to forgive the vilest of sins.
PRAYER: The accuser, Satan with his arrest warrant stands making accusations against me, but thank You Jesus for rebuking him and rejecting his accusations by Your work of redemption on the cross. I enjoy the newfound victory by your priceless blood.
