Topic: We Are Partakers in the Great Commission
Text: John 21:1-17
Memory Verse: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age” – Matthew 28:19-20.
Redemption grants a believer the full right to become a child of God. He has come to the knowledge of Christ, repented from his sins, is cleansed, and granted a special status. He becomes a co-heir with Jesus and His disciple. The mandate given to Jesus’ Disciples, especially at the tail end of His ministry before the crucifixion, was delivered as his heartbeat. Crucial messages are always delivered shortly before someone travels or before death. The message is communicated only to critical stakeholders, such as children and trusted friends.
The Great Commission refers to the final instructions that Jesus gave his disciples before he ascended into heaven, as recounted in Matthew 28:18-20:
“Then Jesus approached and said to them, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey all that I have commanded you. And surely, I am with you always, to the very end of the age.'”
This passage highlights the central mission of Christianity: to spread the message of Jesus Christ worldwide, baptizing new believers, and guiding them to follow Jesus’s teachings. It emphasizes the universal nature of the Christian faith and the responsibility of believers to share it with others. It is redemption that makes believers qualify as participants in this divine mandate to the whole world.
PRAYER: Thank God for this special privilege to be a partaker of the divine assignment made possible by being a product of redemption.
