Topic: “BEARING GOD’S PRESENCE THROUGH POSITIVE INFLUENCE –
“SHINE THE LIGHT”
Text: Matthew 5:1-16
Memory Verse: Matthew 5:16 – “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven”.
Entering into a dark room, instinct demands we reach for the light switch or flip on a torch to illuminate the room. Darkness it is said, is “merely the absence of light.” Once light comes, darkness disappears. Jesus is the Light of the world. (John 8:12 – Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying “I am the Light of the world. He who follows me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”)
Jesus is now with the Father. He has “passed the torch” to us and we must keep it burning, shining bright. As lighthouses that help to show the way for ships at sea, our lives must point the way to Jesus as we exert positive influence on everyone that comes our way.
Our lamps must be trimmed continually, filled with the oil of the Holy Spirit, groomed by prayer, the Word and fellowship. Our text today alludes to the fact that no one lights a lamp and places it under a cover, rather, it is placed on a lampstand, so that it gives light to all within its area of influence.
In a similar way, I should allow Jesus, who is the Light of the world, living in my heart when I became born-again, to shine from my life. I must never allow sin to dull the intensity of the light. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
PRAYER: Help me O Lord, to be a beacon of hope to a world in need of Jesus.
