Topic: “GOD’S COVENANT AT SINAI”
Text: EXODUS 19:1-6
Memory Verse: Exodus 19:5 – “Now therefore, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be a special treasure to Me above all people; for all the earth is Mine.”
God’s desire for a special relationship with His people reflects His deep love and commitment to us. He rescued them from being mere slaves, made them a free nation and then desired to make them special among the committee of nations.
God’s intention for the making of a covenant with them at Mount Sinai was to make them a “…peculiar possession and treasure from among and above all peoples…a kingdom of priests, a holy nation [consecrated, set apart for the worship of God]…” (Exodus 19:5-6, AMP). This covenant was an expression of His love, setting them apart as a holy nation.
After the covenant, Israel was destined to be the envy of all the nations of the world if they would keep their part of the covenant. However, a glance through their journey and biblical stories reveal they struggled with keeping their part of the covenant. They easily forgot their special relationship with Yahweh and quickly behaved like one of those nations around them.
What does it mean to you to be part of God’s treasured possession as a believer today? How does your life reflect biblical covenants? How can you live out your calling as part of a holy nation in your daily life? How can you overcome the distractions of the world and live out the covenant?
PRAYER: Covenant-keeping God, thank You for choosing me as Your treasured possession. Help me to live in obedience to Your word and reflect Your holiness in my life. May I always remember that I am loved and set apart for Your purpose in Jesus’ name, Amen.
