Topic: “Building Intimacy in Prayer: Daniel’s Model”
Text: Daniel 6:1- 11
Memory Verse: Daniel 6: 10 “ Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God, just as he had done before.”
Daniel a young Hebrew boy found himself in captivity with the rest of the people of Israel. Far away from home with no supervision from anyone, Daniel showed true loyalty to God and the teaching he had received from home. In our text for today, Daniel finds himself in a difficult position. A situation whereby the king had issued a decree that no one should pray to any other God but to the king, Darius. Daniel made a choice to stick with God. His choice came with a consequence to be thrown into the pit of hungry lions, yet Daniel decided to follow God.
Daniel was committed to praying, he went home as it was his custom, he went into his prayer room opened the window and prayed to God. The enemies of Daniel went as a group and found Daniel praying and asking God for help. The people who opposed Daniel tried to find fault with him, even when they tried forcing him to choose between God and duty to man. But Daniel was resolute.
The lesson for us today is that when people come looking for us, would they find you praying? Daniel did not neglect his prayer altar, even in the most difficult times of his life. Also, if you continue to follow God as Daniel did, whatever accusations are made against you will be proved to be false. Whatever you lost, God will redeem. As you step out today, remember, that those who stay true to worshipping God and walking with God will always win at the end.
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, stir us to give prayer the priority it must have in these perilous times. May we pray and live as people who know the truth that there is no other God but you? We pray in Jesus’ name. Amen
