Topic:  “THE POWER OF JESUS’ BLOOD ”

Text: Hebrews 9:12-14

Memory Verse: “How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the Living God?” – Heb 9:14.

Today’s devotional explores the power and significance of Jesus’ blood. The blood of Jesus Christ is a powerful and transformative force. It has the power to redeem, forgive and cleanse from sin. Looking back into the Old Testament, as earlier pointed out, the blood of bulls, goats and rams were grossly inadequate to wash away peoples’ sins. This is because the only reach of animals’ blood is the humans’ exterior. While sin is physically manifested during the act, it is spiritually or internally motivated. Internal activities of a human produce the external manifestations of such activities. In this case, the blood of Jesus penetrates the external realm of man’s life to dislodge the power of sin and make the sinner clean.

The blood of Jesus Christ is perfect and its power is eternal. In our devotional text, Hebrews 9:14, we read, “How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the Living God? The blood of Jesus has the power to purge our consciences from dead works and sinful activities, freeing us to serve the Living God.

The blood of Jesus Christ is the only antidote to sin and its activities. No amount of water, no matter how pure it may be can wash away sin during baptism. No amount of animal’s blood can deal permanently with sin. No amount of anointing oil can purge sin away from a human; no amount of laying of hands on a person can erase sin but the blood of Jesus Christ. The only provision made by God for the cleansing of sin, is the blood of Jesus Christ. It deals directly with the root of man’s problem – sin.

PRAYER: Dear heavenly father, thank you for the provision of the blood of Jesus Christ for our cleansing from sin. Grant us the grace to remain pure in your presence daily, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
