Topic: “INTIMACY AND SPIRITUAL WARFARE IN THE CHURCH – A COMMAND FOR SEPARATION“
Text: 2 Corinthians 6:14–7:1
Memory Verse: “Do not be mis-mated with unbelievers. For what partnership have righteousness and iniquity? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?” 2 Corinthians 6:14
Paul writing to the Christians at Corinth was commanding them not to be entangled with unbelievers. Any child of God who is in intimacy with God should realize that he or she is a temple of God. Therefore, there cannot be any relationship between light and darkness; between truth and falsehood; between the worship of God and Satan. Anyone who involves himself or herself in such an alliance, does it at the risk of his/her spiritual hurt.
Ahab, a King in Israel married an unbelieving Jezebel, a heathen princess from Zidon. A lot of atrocities were committed in the nation of Isreal because of this union. Samson a judge in Isreal, endowed with power and grace failed to recognize God’s mandate upon his life. He got himself involved with Delilah, a heathen woman. He failed to achieve God’s mandate for his life which was the liberation of Israel from the threats of the Philistines. He died a pitiable death in the temple of Dagon, the god of the Philistines – Judges 16:23-30
Abraham, the father of faith was conscious of God’s demand. He commanded his oldest servant, Eliezer to enter into an oath with him not to take a wife for his son Isaac from the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom he dwelt – Genesis 24:3. He made sure that Isaac was not mis-mated with an unbelieving wife. What Ahab and Samson thought was a minor matter, became a spiritual warfare for their lives.
Is anyone contemplating a union with an unbeliever in marriage? Is anyone joining an unbeliever in any business venture? Is anyone trying to share accommodation with an unbeliever? etc. We should not forget God’s injunction not to be mis-mated with unbelievers. It will surely become an albatross in such peoples’ lives. Let us trust the Lord and obey Him in all things, then it shall be well with us in Jesus’ name, Amen.
PRAYER: My dear heavenly Father, help me to keep myself holy, never to have any dealings with other gods. Your grace will always be sufficient for me in Christ’s precious name, Amen.
