Topic: “PURSUE RECONCILIATION AND UNITY“
Text: Matthew 18:15
Memory Verse: “If your brother or sister sins against you, go and point out their faults, just between two of you” – Matt 18:15.
Reconciliation and undivided unity are a protective shield against the wiles of the devil. A Christian must always strive for agreement and not to revenge injuries. It is the strategy of the hunter to first separate a prey from the protective bond of others of its kind, isolating the prey sufficiently to drive a wedge between the prey and any help it can get from others. Satan, the master hunter uses this method by ensuring misunderstanding, unresolved quarrels and lingering division which are cardinal barriers to intimacy.
To enhance intimacy, brethren being members of the same family, with God being the father, having been redeemed by the blood of Christ and sealed with the Holy Spirit should not harbour grudges against offending brothers or break forth upon them in the presence of the unbelieving, but step aside and show the perceived fault giving the opportunity of explaining the perceived offence, injury by words or conduct. Furthermore, it has been scientifically proven that, a little friendly conversation, in sincere love and humility will set the matter right and prevent difficulty and or where offence is established, gives the offender opportunity of acknowledging and making reparation. Eph 4:3 “Make every effort to keep the unity of the spirit through the bond of peace”
We must pursue a unity of sentiments, desires and affections such as spring from the Spirit of God, where the interest of the whole is concentrated, cemented and sealed by the Holy Spirit. That we must seek promptly, not allowing passage of time or delay which make disagreement fester. As said, we must not allow the sun to set on our anger.
Do I submit to the common interest of all in Christ despite my different opinion in hope of sustaining Unity? Do I bear grudge against any? Have I been holding on to hurts and not seeking reconciliation?
PRAYER: Father, increase the influence of your spirit in me that I would not take offence easily but relate in love. Grant me the manifestation of your spirit in long suffering, peace, gentleness so I can quickly forgive all offences. Thank you Lord, Amen
