Topic: “GENEROUS WITH ONE ANOTHER“
Text: Acts 2:44-45
Memory Verse: “And all that believed were together, and had all things in common. And sold their possessions and goods and parted them to all men, as every man had need” – Acts 2:44-45.
For a believer when saved, the common faith in Christ in a community should produce a common life.
Generosity, being kind, selfless and giving others do not only replicate God’s love for us, but also indicate our appreciation of that love as we share love and care for others, creating interdependence as the community relies on one another to resolve daily issues. This may include sharing resources such as time, talent and finances – creating a sense off common purpose, uniting members around a shared goal of serving others and succeeding in life together.
Being other people focused is an essential building block of community and the generosity thereof heightens the awareness of others’ needs, thereby taking focus off oneself. It is important also to remember that we are saved not only for self, but saved to serve, knowing that whatever we have, we first received from God and it is for the “equipping” or completeness of the saints and the betterment of those around us. Matt10:8 “Freely you have received; freely give.”
Generosity is to show love within the community we are a part of and resonate with, Rom 12:5 “Since we are all one body in Christ, we belong to each other, each of us needs all the others.” Your generosity opens the door for bigger relationships, bringing people together in ways that leave a lasting impact. The more you are generous, the more others in your community become generous to you – Luk 6:38 “especially if you give, not necessarily to get. This reciprocity is triggered in all members of the community thereby, breaking barriers. Your act of kindness and generosity have a multiplying effect and is contagious, fostering connections, building trust among individuals, encouraging a sense of community through activities, looking out for each other and demonstrating shared concern for the well-being of others, bridging divides and healing broken relationships.
Remember Act 20:35 “It is more blessed to give than to receive” What actions could you take to be more generous in relationships in terms of giving your time, wisdom, knowledge and or resources?
PRAYER: Lord, deliver me from a self-centred focus on my well-being and liberate me into Holy concern for the well-being of others. You, oh God have been very generous to me, teach me to be generous to others, Amen.
