Topic: “THE BIRTH OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST: THE GIFT OF SALVATION“
Text: Luke 2:1-20
Memory Verse: “For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord” – Luke 2:11.
According to the above passage, the circumstance of the birth of the Lord was humble yet significant. The birth of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ is a pivotal event in the Holy Scriptures, because it marks the fulfilment of biblical prophecy and the arrival of the long-awaited Messiah.
Caesar Augustus declared a census; Joseph and Mary, his pregnant wife travelled to Bethlehem to be counted. While there, baby Jesus was born in a manger as there was no room in the Inn for Joseph and his family. Luke 2:1-4. Meanwhile, God’s angels appeared to some shepherds proclaiming the Saviour’s birth – Luke 2:8-14. The shepherds visited the baby and worshipped Him. The shepherds also spread these good tidings about the Saviour’s birth.
The birth of our Lord Jesus Christ was the physical beginning of God’s grand plan for the salvation of mankind. His coming therefore brought hope, and redemption to a fallen world. Through the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, man can experience God’s forgiveness, His love and a life with God in eternity.
PRAYER: Help me Lord to remain thankful always for your love and hope that is in Christ Jesus, our Saviour. In Jesus’ matchless name I pray, Amen.
