TOPIC: “DISHONESTY — THE SHORTCUT THAT LEADS NOWHERE”
TEXT: Proverbs 11:1a (NIV)
MEMORY VERSE: “The Lord detests dishonest scales.” – Proverbs 11:1a
Recently, I went to a transport company to send some items to family members. The attendant asked for the value of the goods. After I told him, he said the cost would be high because charges were based on value. Then he offered to reduce the amount declared so I could pay less if I gave him something in return.
My answer was a firm no.
Dishonesty often presents itself as a simple opportunity. It may seem harmless, clever, or beneficial in the moment. However, every dishonest choice slowly pulls us away from God’s path.
Dishonesty includes lying, cheating, stealing, manipulating, breaking trust, or hiding the truth. Sometimes it appears in subtle ways, small compromises, half-truths, or convenient excuses.
How do we remain aligned with God?
1. Remember who lives in you
Christ lives in you and empowers you to do what is right (Galatians 2:20).
2. Reject your old nature
Your old sinful self was crucified with Christ (Romans 6:6).
3. Stay rooted in God’s Word
His Word strengthens you to choose truth (Psalm 119:11).
4. Follow the Holy Spirit
He guides and warns you when compromise appears.
Today’s Reflection:
Where have you been tempted to excuse “small dishonesty”?
Today’s Action:
Choose honesty in one difficult area today.
PRAYER: Lord, help me love truth and reject compromise. Strengthen me to walk in honesty even when it costs me something. Let my life reflect Your character, Amen.
