AUGUST 29: “DEVELOP SELF-CONTROL”

DATE: Saturday 29 August  2026

TOPIC:  “DEVELOP SELF-CONTROL”

TEXT: Proverbs 25:28

MEMORY VERSE:  “A person without self-control is like a city with broken-down walls.” – Proverbs 25:28

Self-control is the ability to manage thoughts, emotions and actions instead of being ruled by impulses.

The Bible compares a person without self-control to a city with broken walls, open, vulnerable and unprotected.

Without self-control, anger spills out quickly, desires take over, words become careless, and choices become reactive.

Many major regrets begin as small moments of lost control.

However, self-control can be developed.

It grows through self-awareness, spiritual maturity, wise habits and dependence on the Holy Spirit. Galatians lists self-control as a fruit of the Spirit, evidence of God’s work within us.

Pause before reacting. Think before speaking. Step away before escalating. Pray before deciding.

Strength is not found in doing whatever you feel. Strength is found in governing yourself wisely and listening to the Holy Spirit.

Today’s Reflection:
Where do you most need self-control, words, temper, habits, spending, or thoughts?

Today’s Action:
Practice one pause today before reacting impulsively.

PRAYER: Lord, strengthen me from within. Grow self-control in my life through Your Spirit. Help me to respond wisely, speak carefully and live with discipline, Amen.
