OCTOBER 05: “PRAYING FOR LEADERS”

Inherent in the responsibilities of leaders is intercession, praying for the followers. Sometimes, it gets so bad that a leader will spend time praying for lots of people and never really pray for themselves. Worst still, is a leader praying for people but having no one praying for him, especially in crucial time of need. Moses interceded severally for the Israelites, preventing the severe judgments of God, but no one prayed for him when God judged him (Numbers 20:1-13). Contrarily, the church prayed for Peter’s deliverance in Acts 12:1-10.

Leadership carries weight that cannot be sustained by human strength alone. Leaders make decisions that affect families, churches, organizations and communities. They need wisdom, courage, discernment and grace. Apostle Paul requested and revealed the need for prayer support severally (1 Cor. 1:11; Col. 4:3; 1 Thess. 5:25; 2 Thess. 3:1; Heb. 13:18).

Today, pray intentionally for leaders, religious or political. Pray that they will fear God, love truth, reject corruption, seek wise counsel and remain faithful under pressure. Pray that their private lives will support their public responsibilities.

PRAYER: Father, strengthen our leaders. Give them wisdom to decide, courage to act, humility to listen and integrity to remain faithful. Protect them from pride, lust, error, compromise and exhaustion. Make their leadership a blessing in the name of Jesus, Amen.
