June 10: THE NECESSITY OF SPIRITUAL CHCECK UP 1

One of the counsels that health practitioners normally give to people is that they should always ensure they come to the hospital for medical check-up whether they have symptoms or not. When people go to the hospital for medical checks, vital signs and other routine tests are usually checked and conducted so as to examine their health condition and prescribe appropriate drugs where necessary. All these are done so that the patient can be in good health. The same is true of our spiritual health condition. Our spiritual lives equally need a spiritual check-up so as to be spiritually healthy.

Apostle Paul in our text today instructs believers at Corinth to examine themselves if they are still in the faith. This exercise of ‘examining themselves’ is most crucial to ascertain their spiritual health condition. This is necessary because unlike physical illness that comes with certain symptoms, Spiritual illness sometimes may not give early symptoms except we go to God to test our heart. David understood this when he cried to God in the book Psalm 139:23 Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. 

The counsel of the apostles speaks volumes to us today. If I may ask, when last did you go for a spiritual check-up? Or you think it’s not necessary. I want to counsel you today to kindly take heed to the apostle’s counsel. Go back and lock yourself up in the secret place of the Most High and examine yourself in the light of His Word, this will give you the vivid picture of your spiritual health condition and will afford you the opportunity to seek for appropriate medications in His Word. This is so important for every believer who wants to be spiritually healthy.
