Topic: THE NECESSITY OF SPIRITUAL CHECK-UP 2
Text: 2 Kings 22:1-28
Memory Verse: 2 Kings 22:16 – “‘This is what the Lord says: I am going to bring disaster on this place and its people, according to everything written in the book the king of Judah has read”.
We started yesterday by discussing the necessity of a spiritual check-up and we came to the conclusion that, we need to be running a check-up on our spiritual life, the same way we run a medical check-up, so as to stay healthy and sensitive spiritually.
In our text today, King Ahab and Jehoshaphat wanted to go to battle against Ramoth Gilead. Jehoshaphat suggested they inquire of God and Ahab brought together all his four hundred prophets and inquire of them. All of them responded that the king should march to war against Ramoth Gilead. However, Jehoshaphat requested for another prophet of God apart from those four hundred and a man called Micaiah was brought to him. Micaiah said that the king will not return if he goes to the war against Ramoth Gilead. Zedekiah, one of the prophets of Ahab went and slapped Micaiah and said in vs. 24 “When did the Spirit of the Lord leave me to speak to you?” Micaiah responded by saying “You will find out on the day you go to hide in an inner room”.
The response to Micaiah to Zedekiah gives us the picture of where spiritual check-up is done. It is not done on the platform of public activities but rather it is done in the inner chamber with the Lord. This is also known as the secret place of the Most High. When a man enters into that place, the Holy Spirit through the Scriptures begins to run different tests on him. Nobody is spiritually sensitive and healthy beyond his readiness to withdraw to this inner chamber. This is where a man receives spiritual medication for his spiritual ailment and strength for his journey or pilgrimage. To this end, no serious believer must ever joke with this spiritual clinic called the inner chamber.
