Topic: PROCRASTINATION – THE THIEF OF TIME

Text: Ecclesiastics 3: 1-8

Memory Verse: As long as it is day, we must do the work of him who sent
me. Night is coming, when no one can work (John 9:4)

Let us dwell further on this subject of Laziness by looking at a characteristic of laziness. Procrastination is the delaying or postponing of action on an assignment. There can be a few reasons for procrastination such as caution or fear of failure but
for many people, procrastination is a sign of laziness. For such people, there is never a right time for action, they keep postponing it until a tomorrow that never comes and there is always an excuse why it cannot be done now. They come up with all kinds of excuses to delay action such as, “There is a lion outside; I will be killed in the streets!” (Proverbs…..).

Our entire lives is made up of time and time is a resource, a God given currency to purchase purpose. Our passage today tells us that there is a set time/season for every assignment and purpose in life. There is a saying that procrastination is the thief of time. Time wasting is life wasting. Our time on this earth is limited and there are seasons that are unfavorable to our assignment. When we procrastinate, we waste time and opportunities such that we do not accomplish our task or because we have
wasted precious time, we find ourselves rushing to complete a task and not giving it our best because we are short of time. This is displeasing to our God. In John 9:4, Jesus taught His disciples about the importance of working in due season, in the day, before it becomes too late or too dark to work. Through procrastination, many dreams have been buried with the dreamers in the grave.

They delayed action on the assignment until it died with them and lived their last days regretting what might have been. Is there an assignment that you have, a dream, a vision that God has placed in your heart? Determine to start work on it TODAY. The night of timing, the night of age, the night of lost opportunities, the night of death is coming and it would be too late to work
and finish the assignment. May God deliver us from the evil of procrastination, Amen!

Prayer: Father, forgive me for procrastinating and wasting the precious resource of time that You have given me to accomplish Your purpose for my life. Help me to remember that time is limited and to hasten to the work while it is yet day. Amen!
