Topic: DIVINE PROMISE
Text: Joshua 1:1-5
Memory Verse: “No man will be able to stand before you all the days of your life. Just as I have been with Moses, I will be with you; I will not fail you or forsake you” – Joshua 1:5
People make promises to their friends, employees, children, parents, etc. It is not everyone that fulfils these promises. A story was once shared of a very rich man who helped many lives but died in a ghastly road accident while going to visit his first daughter who was in her final year in the university. The man left 6 children behind, the last born was just 4 years old. People identified with the wife and the children, many of them promised to sponsor the children in their academic pursuits but a good number of them never fulfilled their promises. This is what men can do but not our ever faithful God. “For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us” 2 Cor.1:20.
Joshua was with Moses from the land of captivity (Egypt) and he saw all the battles they fought from one nation to the other. In the course of these battles, many Israelites died as a result of their disobedience. Joshua saw how the Lord put Pharaoh and his chariots to shame and ended their lives, he saw the provisions of God from time to time, and he saw how God provided water from the rock and rained manna. He knew that taking over from Moses was not a joke and as a result of all he had seen while with Moses, his heart started fainting when the mantle of leadership fell on him. The Lord needed to come and assure him that He would be with him as He was with Moses. “No one will be able to stand against you as long as you live. For I will be with you as I was with Moses. I will not fail you or abandon you” V5
Beloved, do you have any responsibility that is causing your heart to fear or faint in this new year? What is that thing that is agitating your mind? You have to believe His word to you this day, “For I will be with you as I was with Moses. I will not fail you or abandon you” The Lord who is true to His word says He will neither abandon you nor forsake you. Rise up and match forward. He has promised you His everlasting Presence. Rejoice in the Lord.
Prayer: My Father, help my heart to find solace in the promise of your presence.
