Topic: NO SITTING ON THE FENCE
Text: MATTHEW 6:19-24
Memory Verse: “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon”. Matthew 6:24.
Man’s redemption and victory over death is based on man’s faith in Jesus Christ, thereafter, living as Christ wills us to do. In Christendom today, there are some in the church who speak the language of Zion, but their hearts are far away from God. There is a marked difference between professing Jesus Christ and possessing Jesus Christ. It is one thing to hear God’s words and apply them in our daily living. It is a different thing to hear and refuse to apply them.
Only God knows those who are His. In today’s text, Jesus was addressing His followers, rebuking them that they cannot serve two masters. Our commitment to Jesus cannot be shared with other gods. He wants total commitment from us. I cannot be a follower of Christ and still go about seeking help from other sources. My victory over death is dependent on my total allegiance to the course of Christ. Accepting Jesus Christ should not be for selfish motive, it should be Holy Spirit led. There are many people in the church today, who are still fraternizing with the occult world. This should not be and cannot be.
Jesus Christ declared to His followers, “Not everyone who calls me Lord, Lord shall enter the kingdom of heaven , but he who does the will of my father who is in heaven ” (Matt 7:21) “For what will it profit a man, if he gains the whole world and forfeits his life” (Matthew 16:26) Nobody, should deceive himself/herself. God knows the thoughts of our heart and our motives. We cannot hide anything from Him. Sitting on the fence is not beneficial to anyone. God will not base His judgment on our social standing, financial contributions, activities or influence in the society. He is only interested in our life and our commitment to His course. Faith in Jesus Christ, living according to His words will grant us redemption and victory over death. Will your name be found in the book of life?
PRAYER: My dear heavenly Father, I have cast my lot with you, I do not want to be a pretender. Help me to be a sincere follower of Jesus. Keep me faithful to the end in Jesus name’. Amen.
