Topic: BEARING GOD’S PRESENCE – GOD DEPENDENCE OVER SELF-DEPENDENCE

Text: John15:1-17

Memory Verse: John 15:5 (NIV) – “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”

In our secular world, self-reliance is often celebrated as a virtue. We are encouraged to be independent, to forge our own paths, and to solve our own problems. While there is value in personal responsibility, the Christian faith teaches us the vital importance of depending on God rather than relying solely on ourselves. Jesus’ words in John 15:5 remind us that our ability to live fruitful lives comes from our being connected to Him who is the true vine.

Depending on God means acknowledging that He is the source of our strength, wisdom, and provision. It means trusting in His plans and timing, even when they differ from our own. This dependence is not a sign of weakness, but a recognition of God’s sovereignty and our need for His guidance and support. He is able to sympathize with our weaknesses. He is able to guide us through life better and help us to make wiser and greater choices. Let us therefore approach God’s throne with confidence, knowing that we can obtain mercy from our Father and find available grace that we need. Our God is able to guide us through life’s situations and challenges. God’s choices are better than man’, the Holy Spirit is there to counsel.

Now, consider areas of your life where you have been relying on your own strength and understanding. What challenges or burdens can you surrender to God today?

PRAYER: Precious Lord, thank You for being my source of strength and wisdom. Help me to depend on You in all areas of my life. Remind me daily that apart from You, I can do nothing, but with You, all things are possible. Thank You for Your faithfulness and love in Jesus’ name, Amen.
