AUGUST 18: “BEARING GOD’S PRESENCE THROUGH POSITIVE INFLUENCE – SHINE THE LIGHT II”

Picture a village scene, where there is no electricity supply. The children gather around the fire at night waiting for the last story of the day from the old man of the village, before they go to bed. The surrounding areas are dark, but the area around the fire is well lit. Now, imagine a land filled with darkness, deep darkness as Isaiah puts it in today’s text. Just as the village fire illuminates its surrounding area, a child of God, bearing God’s presence, having the Light of God, with Jesus on the inside, can and must illuminate his or her area of influence and so reduce the amount of darkness.

A popular chorus we sing goes thus: “This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine”. If you shine the Light of Jesus in your area of influence and I also shine the same light in my area of influence, then we dispel the deep darkness. Remember that darkness is merely the absence of light. Pockets of light shining in different areas eventually become a great light, causing the darkness to disappear.

Darkness for us here connotes the works of the evil one, everything that is against God. Therefore, each one of us, who bears the name of the Lord, must ensure that our lights are burning bright to further dispel the darkness.

PRAYER: Help me O Lord to understand the vital role You expect of me in your kingdom and to fulfill that purpose to Your glory.
