OCTOBER 12: “GOD’S PROVISION IN THE WILDERNESS”

OCTOBER 12, 2024

Topic:  “GOD’S PROVISION IN THE WILDERNESS”

Text: EXODUS 16:1-5; 17:1-6

Memory Verse: Exodus 17:6 – “Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock in Horeb; and you shall strike the rock, and water will come out of it, that the people may drink.” And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.”

Provision or giving is an expression of love, “For God so loved the world that He gave…” (John 3:16). As the Israelites journeyed to the Promised Land, God met all their physical and spiritual needs: safety, food, water, light, guidance etc.

They never lacked anything, even though they did not deserve it. “Even when they made a molded calf for themselves, And said, ‘This is your god That brought you up out of Egypt,’ And worked great provocations, Yet in Your manifold mercies You did not forsake them in the wilderness. The pillar of the cloud did not depart from them by day, To lead them on the road; Nor the pillar of fire by night, To show them light, And the way they should go. You also gave Your good Spirit to instruct them, And did not withhold Your manna from their mouth, And gave them water for their thirst. Forty years You sustained them in the wilderness, They lacked nothing; Their clothes did not wear out And their feet did not swell” (Nehemiah 9:18-21).

God Himself made bold to say “…I have led you forty years in the wilderness. Your clothes have not worn out on you, and your sandals have not worn out on your feet” (Deuteronomy 29:5). This provision was a daily reminder of His love and care. Even in the most desolate places, God’s love ensures that we are sustained and our needs are met. How has God provided for you in unexpected ways? How can you trust God for your daily needs, even in difficult circumstances?

PRAYER: Provider God, thank You for Your love and provision in every season of life. Help me to trust in Your faithfulness and rely on Your provision each day. May I always remember that You care for me and meet my needs in Jesus’ name, Amen.
