Topic: “INTIMACY WITH GOD A MATTER OF UNCONDITIONAL LOVE”
Text: John 3:14-21
Memory Verse: “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16.
Intimacy is defined as close familiarity or friendship between two or more parties. To be intimate with God begins with understanding Him as the God who is love and operates in love with all who come to Him. When He first showed His love towards mankind in making us in His image and likeness, He was simply being who He is and showing the nature of His love, unconditional and unmerited. We did not have to do anything to come into this love.
When mankind fell into sin, He still did not wait for us to do anything before He came to rescue us, His love moved Him to do this, Rom 5:8; Eph 2:8-9. This love is not only unconditional, it is non-discriminatory, whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life, He is God of all and loves all. God is the starting point and the initiator of true lasting intimacy, and He longs to have all mankind respond to this intimate love relationship.
When we respond to God’s love and come into an intimate relationship with Him, then we would not have to struggle to experience intimacy in our relationship with our fellow men because His love in us would motivate and guide us.
As you go through these thoughts, begin to think about loving God the way He loves you, unconditionally. Do not reduce your relationship with Him to a matter of what you get from Him only. Love and get closer to Him because of who He is and not for what He does, Deut. 6:4-5, this kind of love would engender true intimacy with God.
PRAYER: Ask God to shine the light of His love again in your heart and let that love fill and occupy your heart from today.
