Topic: “INTIMACY WITH GOD A BASIS FOR CONFIDENCE”
Text: 1 Samuel 17:26-51
Memory Verse: “The Lord who delivered me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine…” 1 Sam 17: 37
Somehow, little children see their fathers as supermen who have all the physical strength in this world and can fight and overpower anyone. This is why they confidently tell whoever hurts them that they will report them to their fathers. They rely on their fathers’ love for them in addition to the strength they believe their fathers have and these give them the confidence to speak with audacity.
Though David was young and inexperienced in military expedition, he had an intimate relationship with God. He had seen God’s love and power manifested in his favour at different times and these made him confident that no matter who stood before him, God was bigger and stronger. When he stood before Goliath the Philistine giant who was a terrible threat to King Saul and the entire army of Israel, he was not moved by the physical stature or military credentials of Goliath; rather, he held to his covenant and intimate relationship with God and his knowledge of God as the Almighty. With this confidence, he approached and fought Goliath with an insignificant (even ridiculous) weapon and killed him.
Beloved, seek to know God and love Him intimately. Let His word and His Spirit abide in you always. These will help build confidence in you and make you unmovable even in the face of the worst adversity. You can confront giants and mountains and not be afraid because of your intimacy with God, 1 John 4:4; 5:4; Isa 43:1-2; Mark 11:23.
PRAYER: Pray in line with what the Lord is saying to you from this meditation.
