Topic: “INTIMACY WITH GOD A MATTER OF INTENTIONALITY”
Text: Luke 10:38-42
Memory Verse: “She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what He said.” Luke 10:39.”
Spending time together is a necessary element for building intimacy. This is because such time spent together offers opportunity for close interaction that enhances intimacy.
However, due to competing interests, one must be intentional about prioritising intimacy.
Mary and Martha had the same opportunity of enjoying intimacy with Jesus, but only Mary maximised it by choice. Martha preferred to serve tables. She thought first of hospitality rather than the more spiritual value of sitting with Jesus to interact with Him. She was offended by the choice that Mary made but Jesus commended it.
Mary thought outside the box and broke tradition because of her preference for intimacy with Jesus. She knew that what she was doing was not traditionally popular and could attract misunderstanding, criticism and even the displeasure of her sister, but she dammed all such consequences to secure what she wanted. She was indeed intentional about being close to, spending time with, and listening to Jesus.
Would you make up your mind to be intentional about experiencing intimacy with God this year? You do not want to wait for intimacy with God to just happen to you because it will not. James 4:8 says you must draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Choose to prioritise spending quality time with the Lord over other competing interests and you will truly experience and enjoy Him like never before.
PRAYER: Ask God to help you rearrange your priorities this year to allow for quality time with Him. Pray for grace to say no to all pressures wanting to get your attention unduly.
