FEBRUARY 15: “Building Intimacy in Prayer: Philip’s Model”

FEBRUARY 15, 2025

Topic: “Building Intimacy in Prayer: Philip’s Model”

Text: Acts 8:1- 7

Memory Verse: Acts 8: 6 “When the crowds heard Philip and saw the signs he performed, they all paid close attention to what he said.”

Philip was a deacon in the early Church and an evangelist. He was said to have an excellent family life as the scriptures say in Acts 21:9 that he had four unmarried daughters who prophesied. And in Acts 8:39-40 he was the one who preached to the Ethiopian eunuch, and many more things that God used him to do.

In our text for today, we saw a different dimension of Philip the evangelist, that signs and wonders were performed in his ministry. Philip was so passionate and prayerful that God honoured his dedication with noticeable signs and outstanding miracles. Philip was not okay with just ordinary things. He took his commitment to God to a level that extraordinary things began to happen in his life and ministry.

Are we not supposed to do supernatural things in Jesus’ name where lives are touched, changed, and brought into the kingdom of God? Today, many Christians have settled for less, we see apathy, a lack of passion, and just plain okay-ness. Okay with how we are. Okay with the church as it is. Okay with doing life with minimal power of the Holy Spirit.

Like Philip, we must push the boundaries with prayers and bring down the supernatural power of God into our lives and communities. As you step out today, dare to be a Philip, who will be so yielded to God that God can work signs and wonders through your life. But remember that those who will be making a difference must be ready to make room to pray.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, help us to be like Philip who yielded his life totally to you and you helped him get rid of himself so that you could be seen operating out of his life in the power of the Holy Spirit, in Jesus’ name.
