Topic: “BUILDING INTIMACY THROUGH THE WORD: THE PRESENCE BEHIND THE VEIL”
Text: Hebrew 9:1-5
Memory Verse: Hebrew 9:1 “Now even the first covenant had regulations of divine worship and the earthly sanctuary”.
We are reminded that the Old Testament is a “shadow of things to come” (Colossian 2:17, Hebrew 10:1) However, the law and the order of divine service gave us a glimpse of God’s pattern on how to recover the relational intimacy which was lost in the garden of Eden when man sinned again God.
The Tabernacle had the outer court that was open to all, the Holy place which only the priest could enter and then the Holy of Holies which only the High priest could enter and even this, only once a year.
Many believers only come as far as the outer court. When we press into the Holy place, we will find that in the Holy place were the lampstands, the table and the showbread.
All of these are symbols of the Word of God. “Thy word is lamp unto my feet” (Psalm 119:105) you need a table to “study to show yourself approved” (2Tim 2:15-26) and Jesus the word declared, “I am the bread of life” (John 6:35)
It is as we become intimate with the Word of God that we know that there is yet the Holy of Holies, the place of intimacy with God where there are the golden censer, the Ark of the Covenant and the cherubim of glory shadowing the mercy seat.
Intimacy with God through the Word of God becomes for us, the “hope that we have an anchor for the soul, both sure and steadfast, which enters the Presence behind the veil” (Hebrew 6:19)
PRAYER: God, source of all light, by your Word give light to my soul, guide me by your Word and Holy Spirit that in your light, I may see light and in your truth, find freedom and peace, Amen.
