Topic: “THE SIGNIFICANCE OF HIS RESURRECTION POWER – CHRIST THE MESSIAH”
Text: Matthew 12:38-41
Memory Verse: “For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth”. Matt 12:40 (NKJV).
The resurrection of Jesus Christ from the grave was not only a demonstration of His power over death but a confirmation of His being the true and only Messiah. His death and resurrection had long been foretold, and He had spoken about it Himself many.
Jesus was perfectly a man, and perfectly God while He lived on earth. The duality of His nature did not in any way diminish the very purpose for which He came but rather reinforced it. Phil 2:5-11
In our text for today, when the Pharisees and Teachers of the Law demanded for a sign as a Messianic proof, Jesus simply pointed them to the resurrection, knowing fully well that no other person could lay claim to such power and bring it into effect:
“Therefore, My Father loves Me, because I lay down My life that I may take it again. No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This command I have received from My Father.” John 10:17-18 (NKJV).
The evidence of His resurrection was an empty tomb, and His appearing to many witnesses. Acts 1:3. Jesus was raised from the grave by the quickening power of the Holy Spirit, and that same power is at work in the lives of all who come to the knowledge of His saving Grace.
“But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.” Rom 8:11
We need this same quickening power to enable us have an intimate walk with Him in our Christian journey. He alone is and remains the Saviour of the world (Acts 4:12).
PRAYER: I confess you as my Saviour and my Lord. Fill me with your power to enable me run this race without let or hindrance, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
