Topic: “FEATURES/CHARACTERISTICS OF GODLY INTIMACY: SERVING THROUGH LOVE AND HUMILITY“
Text: Galatians 5:13-15
Memory Verse: “Serve one another humbly in love. Galatians 5:13b“
In a world that celebrates power, eloquence and prestige, Christ calls us to serve with humility. Jesus washed His disciples’ feet as an example of selfless service. Through humble service, we can grow intimacy in the church. Our service should not be done for recognition, but rather be borne out of love for one another.
A family quietly arranged transport for some elderly members every Sunday, after service. This was done without fanfare or spotlight – just love and compassion in motion. Such acts strengthen the body. When we serve without waiting to be asked or praised, God is glorified and our fellowship becomes joyful (1 Pet 4:10-11). It is in serving that we reflect the servant heart of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Choosing to care for others with compassion often requires us to be spiritually and environmentally sensitive. This will enable us treat fellow believers as part of our spiritual family, and stay alert to circumstances in each other’s lives. It is in this state that we are able to relate and serve in humility, with the spirit and heart of Jesus binding us.
Practice It: Look for a humble way to assist someone in your fellowship or any other small group this week without drawing attention to yourself.
PRAYER: Lord Jesus, teach me to love others the way you love me – genuinely, patiently and compassionately. Help me to humble myself so that others may be lifted and encouraged through my words and actions. Guard my heart from seeking recognition, and let my joy come from honoring you in how I treat others in the name of Jesus, Amen.
