JULY 09 “FEATURES/CHARACTERISTICS OF GODLY INTIMACY: BEARING ONE ANOTHER’S BURDENS”

Godly intimacy means helping others carry their load – physically, emotionally, or spiritually. We are not meant to walk alone. To bear one another’s burdens is to share in life’s joys, pains and struggles.

A member of the Church lost her husband some time ago. The family were financially challenged and not able to afford the burial ceremony.  The Church and individual members rose up to the occasion and a successful burial took place, to the glory of God.

Helping others in their moments of challenges brings comfort and healing. It shows Christ’s compassion. It is a testimony to the watching world. Choosing to stand with others in their struggles often requires personal sacrifice. When we recognize each other’s pain as our own, we are able to extend a hand of fellowship with the mind of Christ. In lifting each other up through compassion and shared strength, we make our crosses easier to carry each day, and bring Glory to God (Gal 6:2).

Practice It: Ask someone this week, ‘How can I be of help in a burden you are currently carrying?’. In following through, remember that help is not always about money, prayers is a powerful gift.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, teach me to notice the silent struggles of those around me and grant me grace to respond with compassion. Help me not to turn away from the weight others carry, but to come alongside them in Your strength and love. Show me how to support, listen, and care without needing recognition in the name of Jesus, Amen.
