Congregational and small group prayers help us build intimacy. Prayer is not about eloquence or memory verse recall – it is about the unity of spirit. It is about our faith in the one and only true God, in His promises, and the confidence that He is able to do exceedingly more that we can ask of Him.

After realizing some lukewarmness in their faith, Sis Kemi and her friend Nkechi made a commitment to pray together every Saturday at 6 a.m. At first, the sessions were awkward and short. However, over time, their prayers became Spirit-filled and heartfelt. When Nkechi lost her job, the prayer sessions became her moments of encouragement. Months later, others joined their prayer chain. What started with two hearts became a small WhatsApp group praying together in grace.

Joining our hearts in regular prayer often means making space in our schedules and lives for others and for God the Father (Acts 1:14). As we recognize our shared dependence on God, we become less “spiritually selfish” and develop deeper spiritual connection. It is through these consistent sessions of intercession that God’s plan and purpose for us begin to endlessly manifest in our lives.

Practice It: Find someone and commit to praying together once a week – faithfully and simply.

PRAYER: Lord, help me to value the gift of praying with others and not take it for granted. Teach me to be faithful in lifting up the needs of those around me and to welcome others into moments of shared intercession so that you alone may be glorified, in the name of Jesus, Amen.
