Topic: “DISCOURAGE TRIBAL CLEAVAGES, CLASS SYSTEMS“
Text: Galatians 3:28
Memory Verse: “There is neither Jew or Greek, there is neither male or female, for ye are all one in Christ Jesus” – Gal. 3:28.
One of the early differences that caused division in the early church was tribalism as the Grecians murmured against the Hebrews for the neglect of daily ministration to their widows. In today’s church communities, barriers are easily formed when tribal sentiments or emphasis is placed on culture and differential background and or status are recognized and unduly promoted within the community.
When we remember that we are one, same spirit, one Lord, and one baptism into Christ, a new generation not working to gratify the flesh, we will quickly put aside these earthly differences; not compelling any to conform to any locational, environmental peculiarities or preferences but to that which the Lord has called us to – equity before Him with liberty from the bondages of men.
We are a new creation! All distinctions are done away since all are equally welcome to Christ as all have need of him, all sects, conditions and sexes, who believe in Him, become one family, one body through Him of which He is the head. While this does not break down societal strata, it infers no preferences or advantage in the Kingdom due to creed or colour but all are on the same level, saved the same way and all entitled to the same privilege. We must never forget that at the foot of the cross, all are sinners, all at the communion table are saved by the same grace, all who enter heaven, will enter clothed in the same salvation.
In understanding this, you should focus on the shared identity in Christ rather than mundane incidences of life differences. You must strive to avoid activities that exclude or marginalize certain groups but encourage interactions between different groups, following a culture of love and acceptance, emphasising dependence on God’s power and guidance in promoting oneness in Christ.
Do I have preferences for those I would rather fellowship with? Am I in the habit of promoting worship in my language only and refusing to fellowship with others of different languages and or status? Is my open fellowship with only people of a certain tribe?
PRAYER: Father, I gladly accept the nature of Christ above my human tribe or status. I accept my new identity as member of the household of God under your terms that we are one in Christ. Help me to relate with everyone on this basis of equality, equity and camaraderie. Thank you Jesus, Amen.
