Topic: “UNCRUCIFIED FLESH 1“
Text: 3 John 1:9-10
Memory Verse: “Diotrephes, who loveth to have pre-eminence among them receiveth us not” 3 John 1:9.
Uncrucified flesh submits to Sin which by extension hardens the heart. A hardened heart cannot operate in intimacy within the church, it creates barriers for the flow of God to His church and by extension, within the church. An uncrucified Christian in the church is one who attends the church but is not of the church – a mere religionist, susceptible to the subtle tendencies of an unbeliever which manifests in self-importance, pride, arrogance, having great affection for prominence. A craving for notoriety; ambition for approval; lust for recognition; infatuation for importance; an adoration for appreciation and a passion for pre-eminence. Such seek the worship of others’ applause and have unquenchable devotion to superiority. While all these look not like outright sin in themselves, they are the manifestation of the Luciferian Spirit! Isa. 14:13 – “I will ascend to heaven, I will raise my throne above the stars of God”.
Barriers to intimacy are created when brethren behave haughtily, arrogating rights and assuming authorities they are not entitled to, claiming superior knowledge of the doctrine of Christ especially against the teachings of the church leadership – rejecting biblical, Godly counsel, with unteachable spirits, desiring to subjugate others. Where these spirits abound within the brethren, such often have an infatuation with own’s importance and show lust for recognition. Such get defensive and with ruffled feathers when godly believers in the church come to identify areas needing amendment! Such would only tolerate superficial shepherding. Pro 15:12 “a scoffer does not love who reproves him, he will not go to the wise”
Brethren need to pray and if need be, ought to fast against such divisive spirit within the church. Do I in anyway shape or form exhibit any of these tendencies? Is my service with the intention to call attention to myself? Is my motive pure, seeking only to worship and to render service?
PRAYER: Gracious God, I do not wish to be a stumbling block to your desire for an intimate church and a vibrant fellowship. Purge me today of any traits and tendencies that are divisive and any attempts to contend with your purpose and plans for your church.
