Topic: “THE IMPORTANCE OF HUMILITY: JESUS BIRTH IN A MANGER“
Text: Luke 2:1-7
Memory Verse: “And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and had Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn” – Luke 2:7.
The son of God was born in a manger! God’s (the Creator’s) Son was born in an animal stall. This is recorded in Luke 2:7 and is a powerful symbol of humility. The birthplace of our Saviour was surrounded by animals, a humble setting. His birth and birthplace reflect value in simplicity, this necessitates modesty and selflessness from us His followers.
The lessons in this for us shall be in three major points; Humility over wordlessness or sophistication, Sacrifice and selflessness and Premium of simplicity:
- The birth of Jesus Christ in a manger greatly contrasts the world’s expectation of a royal arrival. Emphasis here is humility and service.
- Selfless sacrifice – the humble birth of our Saviour was indicative of His life of service and ultimate sacrifice for the redemption of mankind.
- Premium of simplicity – the manger birth encourages us to embrace simplicity, always recognizing that true greatness lies in humility and service.
We therefore summarise today’s lesson by starting to cultivate humility. Practicing selfless kindness in our daily interactions. Looking for opportunities to serve others, therefore emulating the Saviour’s humble nature and embracing simplicity; focus on what really matters in life. We shall endeavour to let go of unnecessary penchant for worldliness or sophistication.
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, help me to cultivate humility in my life, just as Jesus our Saviour demonstrated in His birth. May we learn to serve others with kindness and compassion. Cause us to walk in the footsteps of Jesus, embracing simplicity and selflessness in Jesus’ name, Amen.
