Topic: “VIRGIN’S BIRTH: A MIRACLE OF FAITH “
Text: Matthew 1:18-25
Memory Verse: “Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows; after His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit” – Matt 1:18.
The virgin birth of our Lord and saviour is one of the peculiar realities of the Christian faith, demonstrating God’s mighty power in performing wonders and his faithful keeping and fulfilling of His word of prophecy. It is important to note that this event is indicative of the Lord’s divine origin and purpose.
There are major aspects to the virgin’s birth, and they are listed below:
- The virgin birth fulfils prophet Isaiah’s prophecy in the Bible many years before the Lord’s virgin birth in Isaiah 7:14. It also confirms the Lord’s Messianic identity.
- God’s miraculous intervention in Mary’s conception of the Lord Jesus highlights God’s sovereignty and mighty power.
- The virgin birth also underscores and establishes the Lord’s divine nature; this is what distinguishes Him from other human leaders and emphasizes His role as Lord and Saviour of mankind.
The significance of this is that faith and trust are required in God’s power and His promises. As earlier mentioned, the miracle of the virgin birth sets the Lord apart in His divine origin and mission.
Finally, God is sovereign and has the ability to accomplish His purposes through unique, uncommon and unconventional ways.
The virgin birth of Jesus Christ is a powerful reminder of God’s ability to transcend human limitations. As we meditate on this miracle, may it deepen our faith and trust in God’s promises. As we embrace His divine nature, may we be granted better understanding of Him.
PRAYER: Lord God, the Saviour’s birth and life has given us hope, keep us more intimate with you, and help us to let others know of how wonderful you are. Thank you, Lord, we pray in Jesus’ name, Amen.
