Topic: “WALKING IN ALIGNMENT WITH GOD: NOAH’S EXAMPLE“
Text: Genesis 5:28-6:10
Memory Verse: “Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of His time, and he walked faithfully with God” – Genesis 6:9b.
It is always good for us to begin our devotional journey by examining our church’s theme for the year and attuning our hearts in the direction of God’s word to us. This year, God is calling us to walk in alignment with Him and to do so effectively, we will like to take a cue from some biblical characters who aligned with God in their walk with Him and to draw some lessons for our edification and application.
Our first biblical character is NOAH, son of Lamech, the son of Methuselah, the son of Enoch, the 9th from the linage of Adam. Noah was commended for being a righteous man in a wicked generation. He became the seed by which God brought about a new generation of mankind after wiping out that wicked generation by a flood. It is interesting to note that Noah’s righteousness may have stemmed from his great grandfather Enoch, who is said to have consciously chosen to walk faithfully with God from his 65th year and did so for another 300 years, being so much in alignment with God that he did not taste death because God took him. A man with this kind of testimony is most likely to have passed down this godly legacy to his generations or at least influenced his generations by his life. See Genesis 18:18-19; Deut 6:6-7; 2 Tim 2:2.
By implication, Noah knew, loved, and honored God, resulting in his impeccable life testimony. Our lesson therefore on this first day of the year is that to walk in alignment with God requires personally knowing, loving and honoring Him from the heart. See Deut 6:5; John 14:23; 21:15-17.
PRAYER: Lord draw me closer to you and help me to know you better, love you deeper, and honor you above all this year in Jesus’ name, Amen
