TOPIC: “THE TENDENCIES OF A COMPROMISE”
TEXT: 1 Corinthians 5:9-12
MEMORY VERSE: “Your boasting is not good. Don’t you know that a little yeast leavens the whole batch of dough?” – 1 Corinthians 5:6
The word compromise means the acceptance of standards that are lower than is desirable. As believers, we are in the world, not of the world. Apostle Paul was very specific and straight forward in his first letter to the Corinthians, concerning who not to associate with, in verse 11 of our scripture for today. People in the world may exhibit these characteristics, that is the very nature of the world, but for someone who is a believer, who has had an encounter with Jesus Christ and still manifests these, the scripture clearly warns that we should stay away.
The reason for this is because, the possibility of imbibing and behaving in this same manner is very likely. The Bible says ‘So if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you do not fall!’ 1Cor. 10:12. Believers are admonished to ‘Flee from every APPEARANCE of evil!’ 1Thess.5:22. The tendency to slide into any of these sins is high if the believer keeps company with any ‘believer’ exhibiting any of this worldly behaviour.
The memory verse says it all “… a little yeast leavens the whole batch of dough’. Who are the people in your ‘ship’ – friend ‘ship’, relation ‘ship’, court ‘ship’?
PRAYER: Lord Jesus, help me to keep the faith and reflect Your glory and align with You in my interactions with others in Jesus’ name, Amen.
