TOPIC: “FRUIT OF DIVINE ALIGNMENT: ETERNAL LIFE”
TEXT: Ruth 4:8-10; 1 John 5:11-13
MEMORY VERSE: “This is the testimony…God has given us eternal life and this life is in His son. He who has The Son has life; he who does not have The Son of God does not have life” – 1 John 5:11-12.
Our God makes a typology of what He will do in the fulness of time of the new covenant, whilst humanity still lived in the old covenant. Abraham was to sacrifice his son Isaac (Gen 22:1-3); the celebration of Passover was a sign to distinguish between people of the covenant and the Egyptians when the angel of death came calling (Gen 11:4-7; 12:12-14).
In the fulness of time, God sent His Son to redeem man from sin by His sacrificial death upon the cross, wherein He became our Passover Lamb (John 1:29; 1 Cor 5:7; Heb. 9:11-15; Rom 5:12-21; Eph. 1:7). When the ‘redemption’ of land and properties and the widow, Ruth was going on (Ruth 4:7-8), God used that as a shadow of things to come and foreordained the redemption of sinning of humans from the curse and consequences of sin (Acts 2:23; Gal. 3:13; 1 Pet. 1:20) through His son when good works and humanity could not save.
Therefore, the text by John laid a clear emphasis on the road and way to eternal life – and that is ONLY through the Son of God. An emphatic assurance for those who are in alignment with Him; who look up to Him to live; as well as an emphatic condemnation, torture in eternal damnation for those who reject Him (John 3:18).
