JULY 23: “APPROVAL ADDICTION”

DATE: Thursday 23 July  2026

TOPIC:  “APPROVAL ADDICTION”

TEXT: Colossians 3:2

MEMORY VERSE:  “Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things” – Colossians 3:2.

The desire to be affirmed is natural, but when it becomes a need, it turns into a quiet form of bondage. Approval addiction is subtle; you may not notice it at first. It shows up in overthinking decisions, editing your voice, or constantly seeking reassurance before you move. Instead of living freely, you begin to perform, shaping your life around what will be accepted rather than what is true.

The danger is not just in seeking approval, but in depending on it. When people’s opinions become your compass, you lose direction the moment those opinions shift. You hesitate where you should be bold and conform where you were meant to stand out. Authenticity is replaced with performance and peace is replaced with pressure.

God never designed you to live that way. Scripture calls you to set your mind on things above; to anchor your identity in Him, not in human response. His approval is not earned by performance; it is established through relationship. When you understand that you are already accepted in Him, the need to prove yourself begins to fade.

Freedom comes when God’s “yes” becomes enough. You no longer need constant validation because your identity is secure. You can speak, serve and show up as who you truly are, without fear of rejection or pressure to impress.

Today, release the weight of needing to be approved by everyone. Choose truth over performance. Choose freedom over pressure.

PRAYER: Lord, free me from the need for human validation. Help me to live authentically, grounded in Your approval and confident in who You have called me to be, Amen.
