TOPIC: “THE POWER OF THE TONGUE”
TEXT: Psalm 51:15, 40:9, James 1:26, 3:1-10
MEMORY VERSE: “I do not conceal Your love and Your truth.” – Psalm 40:10
The tongue is small, yet powerful. Words can heal or wound, build or break, guide or mislead.
James compares the tongue to a bit in a horse’s mouth and a rudder on a ship, small things that direct great movement.
Many people underestimate the impact of everyday words:
careless jokes that wound
harsh replies spoken in anger
gossip that damages trust
constant criticism that weakens others
However, words can also bring life:
encouragement
wisdom
comfort
truth spoken in love
praise to God
Your words often reveal the condition of your heart. A heart filled with bitterness speaks differently from a heart filled with peace.
To tame the tongue, begin with awareness. Slow down. Listen more. Speak with intention. Ask whether your words are true, necessary and kind.
Use your voice as a tool for healing and truth.
Today’s Reflection:
What kind of atmosphere do your words create around you?
Today’s Action:
Speak life intentionally today, encourage someone sincerely.
PRAYER: Lord, place a guard over my mouth. Let my words reflect wisdom, grace and love. Use my tongue to heal, encourage and honour You, Amen.
