TOPIC: “GODLINESS WITH CONTENTMENT”
TEXT: 1 Timothy 6:6–7
MEMORY VERSE: “But godliness with contentment is great gain” – I Timothy 6:6 (KJV).
I once experienced something that shaped my understanding of this scripture. My grandmother died in my arms. I was young, so I didn’t fully understand her condition, but I remember clearly that she seemed to be holding on. Then, at about 5 a.m., she let go. In that moment, everything became still. Her hands were no longer holding anything, not even themselves.
It was a quiet but powerful picture. We truly come into this world with nothing and we leave the same way.
This is why the Bible says godliness with contentment is great gain. However, what does godliness mean? It is living in alignment with God’s will, by His help and in a way that reflects His nature. It is not just about outward actions, but the posture of the heart.
Contentment, on the other hand, is being satisfied with what God has given you in each season. It means doing what is right without striving outside of God’s will. For example, if God calls us to give, we give from what we have, not by compromising our integrity to do more than we should.
Godliness is not pressure; Contentment is not complacency.
We can desire growth, progress and increase, but still remain grateful and grounded in where we are. True gain is not in accumulation, but in living rightly before God with a satisfied heart.
In the end, what truly matters is not what we hold, but how we live.
PRAYER: Lord Jesus, help me to have godly contentment in alignment with your will, Amen.
