TOPIC: “LEADERSHIP IS STEWARDSHIP”
TEXT: Psalm 78:70-72
MEMORY VERSE: “He took David from tending the ewes and lambs and made him the shepherd of Jacob’s descendants – God’s own people, Israel.” – Psalms 78:71 (NLT)
We are practically nothing and we own practically nothing outside God. If you doubt it, ask the Rich Fool (Luke 12:13-21). Who we are and what we have means nothing without God. Leadership is stewardship and leaders are stewards. Never miss that truth. We are only privileged to be assigned a people, position, provision and all, for a purpose and for a period. At the end of the day, we will give stewardship account to the True Owner of all things, including our lives.
Psalms 78:70-71 reveals stewardship progression, how God found David faithful with animals and then made him lead human beings. No one can be an unfaithful shepherd hoping to become a faithful king. How faithful are you with small, ordinary, insignificant assignments? You are not qualified for the palace if you are not faithful in the jungle.
Stewardship therefore, requires both character and competence; an upright heart and capable hands. David shepherded God’s people with “integrity of heart” and “skillful hands” (Psalm 78:72). Some leaders have good intentions, but poor preparation. Others possess impressive skills but questionable motives. God desires both.
Ask yourself: Am I developing the competence required for what God has entrusted to me? Am I protecting the integrity required to use it well?
PRAYER: I receive grace today to be a faithful steward. Father, give me clean and skillful hands, with a pure heart to steward everything You entrust to me in the name of Jesus, Amen.
