Topic: SPIRITUAL SENSITIVITY THROUGH GOOD COMPANY

Text:2 Corinthians 6:14-16

Memory Verse: 2 Cor. 6:14 – “Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?”

“He that walketh with the wise shall be wise but the companion of fools shall be destroyed” (Prov. 13:20) is the utterance of wisdom from Solomon, the wisest man that ever lived. There is always a strong transference of life between a person and the company he keeps. Even the local adage says, “Show me your friends and I will tell you who you are.” By implication, the person you keep company with goes a long way in determining the outcome of your life over a certain period of time. It is a spiritual principle.
In our text today, the Bible warns us not to be unequally yoked together with unbelievers because there is no fellowship between light and darkness, neither is there an agreement between a believer and unbeliever. Even in the Old Testament, God warned the Israelites not to keep company with the heathen nations. No believer who wishes to make progress in his walk with God can afford to keep company unwisely with unbelievers. We are to preach the Good News to them and not to keep company with them. This is so important for us as believers.
The Bible says: Two are better are better than one because they have good reward for their labour. If one falls, the other will lift him up. The Bible says in another place that: Iron sharpeneth iron, so shall man showeth the countenance of his friend. This is so crucial. God desires that through the company of believers, we will be further sharpened to live the life of Jesus. The question is: Who are your friends and acquittances? Are they believers or unbelievers? Remember, you cannot grow in goodness and be spiritually sensitive by keeping company with the enemies of God. Quit that sinful company today and hook up with believers.
