Topic: BE PREPARED ALWAYS
Text: 1 Peter 5:8-11
Memory Verse: I Peter 5:8 – “ Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour”.
One indisputable truth is that life is a battlefield. Our adventure in this world as believers, is, essentially warfare. We have a foe to contend with and his name is the devil. The content of his operation is to steal, to kill and to destroy. He has nothing good to offer anybody. Behind his bait of seemingly good gifts and favour is a hook with which he uses to capture his victims.
It is equally important to state that our enemy, the devil, normally launches his greatest attacks against our relationship with God. He knows that is where our strength lies and the moment he succeeds in separating a believer from God, his mission is accomplished. However, he didn’t just start this, as far back as Genesis when our first parents, Adam and Eve were created, the devil was at work. He launched his attack against them through disobedience to the instruction of God and as a result separated them eternally from their Maker. It is this broken fellowship that was restored through our Lord Jesus Christ.
That is why the Lord warns us to always be prepared for war. ‘Be sober and be vigilant’ is the pertinent instruction of our God to us on this battlefield. Sadly, several believers in this end time, are not spiritually sensitive to the reality of this raging battle over their souls. The enemy is always looking for a prey to tear apart. We are instructed in verse nine to resist him and stand firm in Faith. We have the responsibility of resisting the enemy through the Word of God and prayers. We equally must stand firm in our Faith and when we do this, his assaults against us will be ineffective.
