Topic: CREATOR’S WISDOM AT WORK
Text: Proverbs 8:22-36.
Memory Verse: Prov. 4:7 – “The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding”.
Carl Boberg who authored a popular hymn “O LORD MY GOD” brilliantly exclaimed and praised God’s wonderful wisdom as he meditated on the wonders of creation. The first stanza and refrain of the hymn:
O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder,
Consider all the worlds thy hands have made;
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder,
Thy power throughout the universe displayed:
Refrain:
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to thee:
How great thou art! How great thou art!
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to thee:
How great thou art! How great thou art!
This explains the perfect wisdom of our creative God. In our text today, the author describes Wisdom as a person who was there before, during and after creation of heaven and earth. It was very clear that the Constant that made creation possible and beautiful is wisdom. The same factor is responsible for the vastness, the diverse nature of all these beautiful handiworks of God.
If God created the world in wisdom, we must recognize the vantage place of wisdom in our lives and in all we do if, we would be creative like our God. The author of Proverbs chapter 8 concluded the chapter with a great admonition of wisdom: “Now then, my sons, listen to me; blessed are those who keep my ways. Listen to my instruction and be wise; do not ignore it. Blessed is the man who listens to me, watching daily at my doors, waiting at my doorway.” Prv. 8:32-34 there is a lot to gain from walking in wisdom.
This Wisdom personified and described is Jesus Christ. 1 Cor.1:24 says, “but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.” We need to follow Him and listen to Him because, “For whoever finds (Wisdom) finds life and receives favour from the Lord. But whoever fails to find (Wisdom) harms himself; all who hate (Wisdom) love death.” Prov. 8:35-36.
May we never be foolish and end our lives as unwise. Follow hard after Wisdom!
PRAYER: Father, help me never to follow the paths of the foolish but the path of wisdom. Help me live as wise and not as a fool in Jesus mighty name.
