Topic:GIVING BACK TO THE OWNER
Text: John 4: 4-15
Memory Verse: “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” – James 1:17.
A child was gifted a wrap of biscuits by the Chief Executive Officer of the company that produces the same biscuit. He asked the little child for a bite out of the wrap, but the child refused to share her five pieces of biscuit with the CEO. This is because she thought sharing her five little pieces would rob her of the enjoyment she would have of the whole biscuit. If the child knew the One who is asking her for a bite, she would have surrendered the whole pack, knowing that she can get many more cartons of such from him!
Jesus said to the woman he met by the well in Samaria, in John 4:10 “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.” This means the knowledge of God by the one who is giving to Him would determine the way he or she would give. Second, when we give to God as our Owner and the One who owns all things, we are asking for a blessing in return.
When we do not give to God rightly, we rob ourselves of the greater possibilities of blessings that should come to us. Luke 6:38 says, “Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” Our God does not really need our gifts, offerings or sacrifices; He owns everything in creation, for He created them all. He owns us. There is nothing we have, that we have not received. 1 Cor. 4:7.
When we see giving to God as the opportunity to express gratitude to our Owner and the Giver of all good gifts (James 1:6) we open doors for more blessings.
PRAYER: Lord, thank you for your innumerable and never-ending gifts. I give you all the glory for your blessings over my life in Jesus mighty name.
