Topic: “IN THE SECRET PLACE”

Text: Psalm 91:1-13

Memory Verse: “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High God shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty” – Psalm 91:1. KJV

Insecurity and instability are a common feature of the lives of many people today. Men have a tendency to wander from place to place in search of a resting place, never feeling truly settled. Today, there are so many refugees and homeless people in virtually every major city of the world. It is therefore good news to know that God calls us to make Him our dwelling place, no matter what our circumstances and situations might be. I say it strongly that God can be trusted to keep His every word and make good every promise He has made. He can truly grant us security and stability when we heed His call.

In this Psalm, the figure of a home or abode is used. Every human being regardless of his or her social class or level of education can identify with a home. This is because a home provides us some assurance of security, control, belonging, identity, love, and privacy. Home is where we retreat when we are exhausted from all the unending cycle of work and duty each day. Unfortunately, some people, being homeless are not able to understand and appreciate what it means to have a dwelling place. The Bible records that even Moses the servant of God was homeless at a point in his life. He wandered through the wilderness of Median until God found him and called him into His service. He found a dwelling place and an abode in God. No matter how comfortable our earthly, man-made homes may be, they can never compare with what God gives us in Himself – a truly secure and safe abode. We are therefore called to stay, sit, or remain in God. He must be our habitation and the only place where we find rest. We must never allow anything to pluck us out of Him, otherwise, we will suffer being exposed to all kinds of evil. Having come into a relationship with God, remain in Him and let Him secure your life. Let Him be your secret place and cover you from the scorching sun.

Prayer: Pray as the Spirit of God leads you and re-establish your stay in God, your secret place.
