Topic: “THE FALLEN HERO: JUDAS ISCARIOT”

Text: Matthew 27:1-10

Memory Verse: “So Judas threw the money into the temple and left. Then he went away and hanged himself”. – Matthew 27:5 (NIV).

Judas Iscariot was one of Jesus’ twelve disciples. He was one of the privileged few to be enlisted into Jesus’ army of trans-generational revival. He was even entrusted with the purse of Jesus’ ministry (John 12:6). What a great opportunity this was. Though he walked closely with Jesus, listened to several teachings about God’s kingdom, witnessed several miracles, greed for money caused him his place of Bishopric. His lot among the disciples was given to another person. Peter said about him: “Let his habitation be desolate and let no man dwell therein: and his bishopric let another take”. (Acts 1:20).

Judas’ journey to destruction is traceable to when he began to dip his hands into the purse to help himself with the ministry’s money. He began to be unfaithful in handling the unrighteous mammon and that became a snare to him. Finally, His love for money even led him to betray His master for thirty pieces of silver (Matthew 26:14-16). What a quiet slip into backsliding! After realizing the gravity of his betrayal, Judas was filled with remorse (Matthew 27:3). However, rather than seek forgiveness from God, he took his own life (Matthew 27:5). His story serves as a cautionary tale about unchecked sin and the consequences of failing to seek true repentance. Friend, the power of sin is destructive. It blinds us, leading us to make choices with devastating consequences.

Are there areas in your life where sin has a foothold? What kind of sin has become a snare to you? How have you been handling the issue of money? Are you faithful in your business and your dealings with others when money is involved? Or you have lost your place in God because of the pursuit of mammon? Do not end like Judas, repent today!

PRAYER: Confess your sins to God and ask Him to cleanse your heart. Ask Him to restore you and give you a fresh start
