Topic: BLESSED CURIOSITY
Text: John 3:1-17; Luke 19:1-6
Memory Verse: “Nicodemus answered and said to Him, “How can these things be?” John 3:9 (NKJV)
Man is built with an instinct and desire for more. That is why man is always clamouring for more than he possesses. We are wired for more and more. Alluding to this, Daniel Boone submitted that curiosity is natural to the soul of man and interesting objects have powerful influence on our affections. Similarly, Rakesh Jhunjhunwala further explains that, “the biggest quest to learn anything is curiosity. If you are curious about something, you will go and dig.” A curious mind is always at the advantage of learning and earning new things. However, it becomes a bad sign for a man who is always satisfied with the status quo. Curiosity could be a blessing when employed in a quest for God.
The story of Nicodemus and Zacchaeus from the scriptures for today shows two individuals who were dissatisfied with the norm and desired Christ (in spite of their status and societal affluence and influence). They saw their wretched state and how impoverished they were without Christ. Defying all odds (John 3:1-2; Luke 19:1-3), they sought a meeting with Jesus (Grace personified). So Nicodemus a notable ruler of the Jews and a filthy rich Zacchaeus were curious to seek something more satisfying. These led to their fresh experience.
Similarly, you must develop a curious and hungry heart for the things of God. It was the curiosity of Nicodemus that gifted the world with John 3:16. His curiosity drew out the powerful revelation in John 3:1-21. Not only as sinners, but also as saints, we need a lifestyle of thirsting after the blessings of God’s redemptive grace. This attitude is what makes your curiosity “Blessed”. How long have you been born again? What do you know about this redemptive grace? Remember, blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness (Matthew 5:6).
PRAYER: Dear Father, help me to develop a curious and desperate heart for the things of God and eternity.
