APRIL 25: ABSOLUTE SURRENDER

Surrendering means to stop resisting and to submit to an authority. Most times as humans, we fume and struggle at this because no one loves to be controlled and directed but always wants to be a lord or captain of our own ship. Surrendering absolutely to God is acknowledging the supremacy of God over you and all you possess. However, there will be a tussle and continuous struggle until you have truly signed up for the lordship of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

The experience of Peter in Acts chapter 10 describes the paradoxical (contradictory) lifestyle of many believers who profess the lordship of Christ but question, resist and struggle with the lordship of Christ Jesus. Peter’s response to the vision of God and invariably His plan concerning the mission to the Gentile nation was, “No, Lord…” (vs. 14). Is that not paradoxical, to call one lord but yet resist and question his lordship? His emotions, perspectives and knowledge were not submitting to the Lordship of Christ with respect to His mission and plan.

Today, this is the vivid or graphic picture and posture of many believers whose intellect, emotions, ideas, knowledge and perceptions still drive their actions and understanding to the things of God. One of the things God’s grace brought to us is a lifestyle and culture of submission and humility. Surrendering all is what increases Grace (James 4:6). What else could you be holding back too precious to lay down for His Lordship? The slogan of men who had surrendered all is “My life, My All”. Growing closer to God is not the result of trying harder but surrendering more.

PRAYER: Enable me dear father to be able to lay down the things I cherish and hold dear to me before you without hesitation, Amen.
